Annual Meeting
The Tennessee Business Roundtable’s Annual Meeting is held in April. The Annual Meeting will feature prominent speakers on key legislative and policy issues. The meeting focuses on the mission of Tennessee Business Roundtable and updates members on pertinent agenda items. This year we will conduct a legislative "Day on the Hill' where Tennessee Business Roundtable members can meet with members of the legislature. A membership reception is held after the meeting.

Regional Meetings
Regional Meetings are held for TBR members and other area business leaders as various issues arise. These meetings are called and confirmed as schedules permit and generally scheduled during summer and fall.

Planning Session
In the fall of the year, the Executive Committee, Board Members, and Presidents Council meet to plan the agenda for the Annual Meeting and to develop the priorities for the upcoming year.

Executive Committee
The TBR Executive Committee holds monthly conference calls to discuss current issues and activities. The Executive Committee and the Board may have special meetings called by the President.

Legislative Committee
TBR Members are encouraged to attend Legislative Committee Meetings when relevant issues may be discussed. On occasion, members are asked to make presentations before Legislative Committees.

Membership News

As we bring new members into the Roundtable, it is important to share these members and their businesses with our current membership. The new member profile for April is………

Nucor Steel Memphis, currently under construction, will be a state of the art steel facility producing high quality steel bar products for technologically advanced applications.  With a total asset base of nearly $300 million and an expected employment of more than 225 teammates, Nucor Steel Memphis is poised to make its mark on the Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel marketplace, and make its contribution to Memphis, Shelby County, and the State of Tennessee.  Construction is ongoing with startup expected in the 2^nd quarter of 2008.

Located in the Frank C. Pidgeon Industrial Park in the city limits of Memphis, Tennessee, Nucor is bringing production back to a steel site that was idled by another company several years ago.  The former facility has been gutted of its old technology and equipment.  The facility will soon be a showplace of modern, efficient, environmentally friendly technologies.  Combining these technologies with a skilled, motivated workforce will result in high quality steel with a global marketplace. 

Some of the new equipment at Nucor Steel Memphis includes a 100 ton electric arc furnace (EAF), a ladle metallurgy facility, a vacuum degassing station, and a 3-strand continuous caster.  Other new equipment includes a walking beam reheat furnace, a reversing breakdown rolling mill, new rolling mill stands, cooling bed, and in-line finishing and testing equipment.  The plant is rated for 850,000 tons per year of steel production.  Products produced at Nucor Steel Memphis will include round and square steel bars from 2” to 9”, and as-cast blooms up to 20.125” in diameter. 

Nucor is the largest recycler in the United States, annually handling more than 18 million tons of scrap that is recovered from automobiles, appliances, and other discarded products.
